I'm Allen.
Do you use it?
Do you need the cash for another purchase?
No + Yes = yes
I was going to say the same thing. Any *domesticated* reel to reel is totally outclassed technically by good digital in the real world and one would only keep such a machine for the looks and awe in watching the reels going round and round, unless you have some serious master-grade recordings to play on it. Even then, best to have digital backup safety copies stashed away..
They need maintenance, tapes cost a small mortgage now and in my case, I kept my High Speed B77mk for as long as I did because I had some pretty fair master copies to play on it. I sold mine with tapes over twenty years ago to a friend with something of an audio museum and if he still has his amazing stash of tape gear, I doubt it's ever been used in anger to record anything, let alone play anything back.
I love the look of a machine with 10.5" reels spinning away, but would need to have a genuine use for it, rather than just as eye-candy. That's all I can suggest Steve - will you miss it unbearably when it's gone? I have two items I bitterly regret selling, at the time, but the Revox (and the Nak CR7 I also sold at the time to the same pal) isn't one of them I'm afraid.
Tear down these walls; Cut the ties that held me
Crying out at the top of my voice; Tell me now if you can hear me
