Thread: Mission 774 Arm

I fitted some cable tidies under my TT and then soldered the plate and wire together. It's imperative that the wires are secured because they will come apart if not. It can be fiddly but you'll be rewarded with a fantastic tonearm when youve sorted it.

Just edited post above to fix the main photo !

Haven't got any photos of the cable dressing, but will see what I can do later in the week...

    Thanks Oliver...

Yes it really is a pain... the original lead (which I'm not using) seems even stiffer and less flexible so I can imagine this must have been a problem for others with this arm.

Worst case, I could just get some lighter / shorter leads a run them from the arm base down to the sockets on the back of the plinth (which were removed so I could run these leads direct).. That would probably reduce the weight and also the risk that movement of the cable somewhere outside the deck causes these to pull apart...

I had the same issue in my 1210, so I just screwed a plate across the cable on the underside of the deck to trap the cable. It wasn't pretty but couldn't be seen.

I used the cable grip from an old 13 amp plug. The kind that uses two screws. I screwed it to the plinth base so the cable exited backwards.

Thanks for the tips. I think part of the challenge is the tight angle to get the cable back to the opening on the back of the plinth... wondering if running it through the large circular hole in the bottom of the TT base might work out easier, particularly as it would probably be easier to screw cable grips into that (it looks like some hardboard IIRC).

    Will have another look tonight...

The cable can go through the hole, but it still needs securing as flexing from movement will break the thin soldered ends.

Yes - understood. I think i really need to build some kind of jig so I can get underneath it more easily, as part of the difficulty is access... ie there would have to be some 'slack' (At the tonearm end) in the secured cable to allow me to get the tonearm base up (to solder)... if really is a fiddly process!

You could glue a block inside the back of the plinth to bring the supporting clip out to where you want it.
