Al,
That would have been perfect for spare cards etc, if you were worried about sourcing new extender boards and audio cards. No need to power it up. Just scavenge the cards. I'm sure that one of the pair of audio control cards would function.
If you're looking to source NOS cards, here's a set of spare NOS cards for the MTR10 & MTR12. The MTR10 and 12 are basically the same, except the MTR12 can take 12 inch reels, instead of the 10.5 max reel size on the MTR10

Exactly, that's why I thought the beater MTR would have been perfect for you.
Mind you, the NOS spares would be perfect, if you had several MTR machines.
I also thought that and suggested the same thing in another thread?
If you have a machine of the quality of the MTR12 and you want it to work perfectly then you have to be able to put yourself out a little to get it fixed.
I would make an offer on the lot and swap out boards until I found a fix?, then sell what you have left individually.
however don't kid yourself that a board swap will bring it all into perfecrt calibration.
If you can't fix it and calibrate it yourself Al don't expect someone to come along and fix it for a few quid as people who can do that are now few and far between

Not sure how to take you comments , Lets go back to the beginning
I was looking for a beter quality R2R about 3 years ago , found one up north and was going to buy it for over £1000 , I then had a PM from Stewart advising me to buy the machine I now own as it was in Hackney London , He also assure me that between himself and Phillip they would get it back into tip top condition ( and yes I pay my way , no freebies ) As you know Stewart had medical problems the first time round had treatment as was given the all clear . Super news , I made contact on several ocasions asking when could I have it looked at ? , This never happened as he bacame ill again , so I waited again and the rest as they say is history . I dont recall saying I wanted if fixed for " A few quid " As said I Pay my way
I dont have the skills to fix this myself as I am no electronics engineer and also dont have the required scope / signal generator / test tapes and knowhow to do the job
I also dont have unlimited funds as I am only a truck driver ( No big bucks pay packets ) The machine I have cost me £500 so paying £1000 for a set of boards and then finding someone to fit and calibrate them is a no go , As for the used MTR12 would it have been any good ? who knows , They are studio people and to say " Untested " stinks and not even bothered to reply to my request " Does it power up " also stinks
A recap , I only purchased this on the recomendation of Stewart , RIP

Al,
Why don't you contact Chris Notton, who originally looked after the Eurythmics machines at Church Studios?

A fully sorted MTR12 is probably worth £1250-1500, so you have plenty of margin to get it fixed, given your purchase price.

When it's fully sorted, you'll love it. Once you get your first master tape, you'll get hooked. Just don't waste your time recording from a LP to a mastering machine like the MTR12.
