    Default Hello from North Yorkshire

Hi i am Michael and have been interested in music for 30 years and hifi for 20 years or so.

I am a subjectivist and try to trust my ears even though i have a touch of tinnitus. I am a DIY nut and have built pre amps, power amps and a fair few power supplies and filters/regulators.

Current set up is LP12, NVA phono stage, diy passive pre, kit power amp, highly modified Cambridge cdp and MS speakers.

Looking forward to getting involved here.

    Hello Michael. Welcome to AOS.

A subjectivist point of view is fine. Most opinion here tends to be fairly subjectivist anyway, but all approaches are welcome. The idea is civilised discussion.

If you have any projects on the go or wish to show us items you've built, I'm sure this would be of interest. You could run a blog in the Gallery section or start a thread in the Drawing Board area.

Please feel free to join in the banter. The members are friendly.

    Enjoy the forum,
    Geoff.

Hi Michael, welcome to the forum.

It is okay to be a subjectivist here, and for those who aren't we have Jez Arkless.

I am sure i will be posting about my exploits.

It is rather hard to be an objectivist when you dont have any test equipment

You have the best 'test equipment'. One on each side of your head. Ears!

No, they are wicked, deceitful things that are always wrong when it comes to hi-fi. Work totally fine for every other application of course.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

I've always wondered why the designer went for the twin monoblock design there when an integrated would have been a much neater solution.
