Treat yourself to something 'nice' mate.

Here we go, Pear Anjou speaker cables. 8 foot pair probably five grand over here: http://www.pearcable.com/sub_products_anjou_sc.htm

    You know it's worth it!
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

    Tape decks 0

DAT decks 0 ( I did have an old Sony one but seem to have misplaced it at some point!)

2.1 systems 1 (oh god and it has another sub)

Soundbar 1 (erm yeah another sub there as well)

Am now hoping my partner doesn't realise I am collecting speakers, subs and AV receivers!

3 rpi setups with assorted DAC's

    5 Spotify accounts (family plan)

    5 or so amps

3 or 4 pairs of speakers

Wow - 9 pairsof headphones. Any favourites ?? I'm in the market for a pair for "armchair" use - my other 3 usually used for travelling. My budget is £400-600 - recently bought a headphone amp. Interested. Colin

Yes, down to 9 as I have recently sold a few off. They include a couple of multiples, though.

    Rundown of contenders .... B&O H6 and Form 2a (3 pair), Beyerdynamic DT-150, PSB M4U-1, AKG 551, Fostex T50RP mk3 (2 pair), Soundmagic E10 & E50 IEMs.
Also recently heard some Hifiman HE400 planar magnetics (too smooth for me) and have owned several pairs of Stax 'stats in the past as well as numerous other dynamic cans.
Quite a few more over the last year or so that didn't impress so much ... the above listed are the good'uns imo.

I'd never even heard of the Fostex until a reccie was posted on an AOS thread I started. But they are the Winners as far as I am concerned. They make 'reviewer hyperbole' irrelevant - they just sound right, as in "that's how it should go".
2nd place (i.e. the pair I would keep if only allowed two) would be the B&O Form 2a. Not because they are better than the others (although a case could be made for that! - very open, transparent and immediate sound and 'not-there' comfortable, not for bass-heads, though) but because of the sound+fun aspect. They weigh next to nothing and sound ridiculously good for not much physical presence - and they come in some cool colours - I have orange, green and black pairs.

So - the Fostex. As good as any I have heard and way better than most. .... actually, better than any others. A real surprise. The standard earpads come in for a lot of stick online for comfort issues, although I find them OK. The Brainwavz earpads are a good comfort and sound upgrade, though (£20).

As you can see I have focused on mid-price cans - they are a secondary source for me, only used before the wife stirs herself in the morning, so I don't feel the need to spend more.
-- Mind you, I was expecting the HE400 dem to be a game-changer and to raise my budget, but no, fantastic in some ways but deeply flawed in others.
