I don't agree with the death penalty. But there are times I could willingly carry it out myself!

It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!
What a big man.

I don't either but in open and closed situations like this it does seem pretty wasteful that we have to pay to keep him in jail for the next 18 years when we could just take him out back in the parking lot and shoot him in the face. If there's a downside to doing that I really don't see what it is.

I wouldn't mind so much if it was actually "life", the way they do it in the USA. Over here, they sometimes only serve 7 years or so and are then out to do similar again.

It's quite possible that this man will never leave prison.
I will always feel it is better for someone like this to serve a prison sentence 'at society's pleasure'.
He must live with his conscience, and our power over him. One day he might show genuine remorse, maybe, maybe not.
Our anger is natural. It would be strange if that weren't our reaction. Being able to control our anger and put things into context for the greater good is what separates us from him. That is worth the financial costs involved.
More concerning to me is that a man with a previous history of violent offences was able to re-offend so easily and with such tragic consequences.

I'd happily execute those who abuse children. I'd do it for free and not lose a minutes sleep.

a natural reaction but people must realise that with every one life you take, the easier it is to do next time, and then for lesser crimes until , well you get the picture. There is no easy way to salve a conscience after too.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".
“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”
"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”
“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

Well I guess it is now down to those within the prison system to deal out their own kind of justice. I also hope he gets his arse well and truly rodgered
