Default [FS] Tannoy Definition D500 (Rosewood)

The Tannoy D500s give outstanding sound quality, clarity and intelligibility with good bass extension and imagery.
Technically in rosewood finish, these speakers have aged from reddish to a very pleasant rich brown and have striking veneer matches on both baffles and top faces. Complete with original foam port bungs (not exactly recommended) spikes and four adjustable feet per speaker. The units have no serial numbers as they were early production listening samples and are internally wired with van den Hul cable (from new). They have been reconditioned twice to reseat internal damping, tighten the cabinet braces and strengthen the screw fixing holes for the drivers. They have been in regular use until last week. The only known fault is a crack on the top of one grille frames which aligns invisibly once fitted. - see picture. Oh, and the positive terminal have faded to an attractive 'raspberry'.
The speakers can be heard in passive or passive bi-amped form in the NE49 postcode area - you are welcome to bring your own amplification. Packed in double cartons the speakers are a two-man lift and delivery by anyone other than a specialist courier may be problematic. But I am prepared to deliver in the NE, NW, Border as far as Glasgow or Edinburgh or to come to a mutually convenient arrangement. If you want these speakers I'm very happy to discuss how to get them to you.

    PayPal (Friends & Family) - £879.

Lovely things and can't be a million miles away on price David. It's more the slow summer market imo - hang in there

How did these stand in Tannoy's range to the similar looking sixes, presumably they were contemporary?

The driver complement was similar to the 611 bit that was neither a true floorstander nor a proper bookshelf but required short stands. The 613 was a similar size but had twin bass units. The modern Definition series began with this series - there were 300, 500, 700 and 900s with 6.5, 8, 10 and 12-inch DC drivers and bass partners in substantially better cabinets than the Sixes. Better crossover components and internal wiring as I understand it. I must admit to being partial to the contemporary 609 (single DC in a compact cabinet).

The current Tannoy Definition DC8Ti is the direct descendant of the D500s.

I haven't the money but that's half what they cost new, I highly recommend someone to look at these as they won't let you down in the looks and most definitely not in the performance category , you will pay mor than £1500 for the same performance today and they will work in most reasonable size lounges. Whoever buys them has paid a fair price for a very accomplished loudspeaker.
