Money must truly be no object when divorce settlement legal fees reach £10,000,000. To be blunt, that's fucking ludicrous!! Not to mention grotesque and absurd!!!

That's just crazy, wouldn't it pay them to just stay together? They're in their 70's, what could be so important?

Being in one's 70's doesn't mean normal life is over. We still do everything, just a little bit slower - sometimes. Life has just as much meaning and enjoyment!

Quite an appalling waste of money however. With that much money, why the hell would it matter losing half? Still enough for a dozen lifetimes by any reasonable standard.

I know. I find it disgusting!

That ten million could have rehoused all those displaced by the Grenfell Tower disaster for instance.

Look up Hamilton Palace in Sussex as a potent reminder of what it is all about especially in relation to Grenfell tower. I cant even mention the person as he disgusts me. If you want a deep symbol of what this country is all about..... that should do it.

Couple that with the fact that nobody on minimum wage can really afford to rent now and it adds up to a housing timebomb

Sorry but I am firmly in favour of a cap on earnings and an 80%+ tax bracket. The disparity of wealth is truly obscene

Van Hoogstraaten? He's a nutcase and hardly typical of anything. Except nutcases.

The top 10 wealthiest in this country are so obscenely wealthy that seizing just these 10 peoples assets would pretty much sort out the country. I sincerely hope Corbyn taxes them till the pips squeak WHEN he becomes PM.
Abramovich spent £1200,000,000 on just a big dinghy! This is more than the bribe to the plague monks of the DUP...

IMO no one should be allowed personal wealth beyond say £10 Million and I hope a future Labour gov agrees with me! Just take it from them and build new hospitals, increase benefits so food banks are no longer needed and build shit loads of new council houses!

Yes, I think this is at the root of many of the country's problems. We've heard a lot recently about the 1% pay cap, but pay rises wouldn't be necessary at all if the cost of things didn't go up - particularly the cost of housing. House prices and rents are ridiculous these days. Today kids are expected to leave university owing £27,000 (at least). In 1997 you could buy a house for £27,000.
Affordable rents for council houses used apply downward pressure on rents and house prices across the board, but now there are so few council houses left there's nothing to stop prices from rising indefinitely - particularly when the government is prepared to pay inflated rents through the housing benefit scheme.

Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power, and important principles may, and must, be inflexible.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”
