just out of interest ,what do you guys feel would be a sensible price on that turntable i linked to before i should throw in the towel if it goes abit silly ,like ebay can from time to time
there doesn't really seem to be any ball park starting prices for these turntables, seem to go from one extreme to another

Thanks for the kind words Paul Re: my thread, lets do some maths about the cost of parts for that Lenco on eBay.

    Linn Basik arm £100 - 150
    The plinth £50 - 100
    The Lenco £100 - 150
    The tonearm cable £50
    Cartridge £30-50

So even if we look at the lower end of what I've quoted your looking at £330, if you dont like the Lenco you can always split the deck up and sell as seperates and quite possibly make a little cash.

thanks for all the advice everyone
well i won it,£195 plus postage,so if it survives postage then i should be a gl75 owner by the weekend and also get to hear for myself what all the fuss is about
well i might not find out what the fuss is about at the weekend as ive just realised it hasnt got a cartridge with it...doh,and bugger
better see if theres anything very cheap and cheerful going on the ebay to get me up and running as ive now spent all my money...and the wifes
any advice of a good cartridge match for the linn lvx tonearm that comes with this turntable....dirty cheap and cheerful of course

    all the best

An at-95e would be my choice. Cheap and you can get different styling if you feel the need. I think Linn used to rebadge them as their own in the past. Enjoy your new toy!

Well done Paul. Welcome to club Lenco. I'd counsel a Shure M55e and then got rod it when you have some spare cash. TBH a lot of the Shure are excellent and still very well supported, you can always get a JICO stylus to improve them.

yes, like the shure you can get a shibata for the AT95, and very good it is too. great upgrade when youve got yhe cash and in meantime the standard 95 will cost only £25 or so.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”
