Craig, the Squeezebox architecture is 1 LMS server and one or more clients/players, you can also activate the SBTouch to be both server and player (as you have), however this gives ever increasingly poor results as the size of the collection attached to it grows
the SBTouch only has 128MB of RAM...

...and a a puny processor at 533Mhz.
It is perfectly capable as a player but don't ask it to be a server too, unless you want to continue in this manner...
My 8 year old NAS has a 1.2Ghz processor and 500MB of RAM, 2TB HD, and happily holds the flac store and runs LMS
However I'm now using a RPi3 to run LMS 7.9, £29, 1.2Ghz quadcore CPU, 1GB RAM...referencing the QNAP Flac library
With LMS running on my NAS, a full index rebuild of 3k cds in FLAC takes about 50 mins, and about 5 to 6 minutes for a 'new and changed music' scan...perfectly acceptable
With LMS on the pi3, connected to the QNAP via a TP-link ethernet, a full scan in 20 mins, and a delta in under 3...even more acceptable
