I think your going to have a very nice time with your Alphason. I have one which sits on my Lenco Reference deck at home. I had J7 fully service/fettle/re-wire mine and it's a stunner. A very underestimated arm.

Thats good to know, Andrew. I am slightly concerned that I have spent a lot of money for not much, if any, improvement over the Mission 774 but I haven't heard it yet so im hoping its a clear winner! I dare say it will find its way to Johnnie when I have some money. If it beats the Mission of course!

I have made a MDF bass plate which is 7mm thick to see if the correct VTA can be obtained, when the plate is made up. I think this may be the only issue.

Correct distance between spindle and pivot is obtainable, the arm lift mechanism doesn't obstruct the speed controls etc it looks very good on the TT too.

I also hooked up the Cartridge and plugged the tonearm in to check for buzzing or any nasties and im happy to say none could be heard.

Under the arm mounting collar is a protrusion. Picture is just an example.

This fits into the SME cut out so that worry has been extinguished.

Looks like it will be pretty straightforward. Hopefully !

A bit of DIY for fault testing. I have the correct pivot to spindle distance but VTA is way off at the minute. I'll perfect it later and establish the null points too.

Everything works as it should though, which is a relief!

Any idea of what spacer/mount thickness yet Oliver? I'm sure it can be juggled to suit.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

    looking sweet as!
where does the 211 mounting distance put the alphason in relation to the sme cut out? can you still use the slot cut out in the tt plinth,if you can its just a case of making a plate to take the alphason and use the already threaded mounting holes for the 774 in the plinth. simples!

i didnt know the toshiba came in black, very nice
