Something a bit left field and perhaps not a classic album per se, but Alice in Chains - Unplugged. Simple wonderful performance and the sound quality is magnificent.

Soul, jazz, Americana and reggae. If I was to choose a rock album then I would find it difficult to look past John Martyn, though he's not rock!

Great taste you have there Geoff !

Marcus Garvey and / or Dry & Heavy - Burning Spear
    Gaucho - Steely Dan
    Superfly - Curtis Mayfield
    Menagerie - Bill Withers
Got My Head On Straight - Billy Paul

The Eric Clapton Album is a bit special on Vinyl. I have a German pressing and it's fantastic.
