Thumbs up Celtic: Scottish Premier League Champions 2018

    Celtic 5 Rangers 0

    Say HELLO to 7-in-a-row! YAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSS.....

Now to secure a double treble in the cup final!

Thanks guys. The difference in today's game was that we were simply too good, not that you didn't turn up, like in the cup semi-final. There really wasn't much you could have done about it, as the football we played for the first 55 mins was breathtaking and just blew you away, demonstrating the gulf in class. From the first whistle, we just wanted to get the job done and title won, ASAP.

You're right, were it not for your goalkeeper and Celtic taking their foot off the gas in the last half hour, it could've easily been 7 or 8.... What's frustrating for me though, is we don't bring our 'A game', like this, to the table often enough in the more 'mundane' league games, such as against the Motherwells and Kilmarnocks of this world.

We should be playing like that EVERY week! Anyway, still over the moon. Let's hope Gerrard takes the Rangers job (as now seems likely) and can start to give us a challenge, and turn Rangers into something resembling the team that they once were.

Gerrard to Rangers makes a lot of sense. Big name joining a financially poor league. I hope the rivalry comes back, Scottish football has been the biggest victim of the whole saga.

Hearts are my Scottish team. Dads side from Midlothian.

    Hi Oliver,

Interesting that you're a Hearts fan... Shame, as I can't stand Craig Levein!

Agree with you about Gerrard, although as long as that works out better than when Celtic appointed another young and untested 'famous player' manager in John Barnes!

Two things come to mind here, though:

    1) Gerrard would want multiple millions of pounds to spend on players, before he'd consider the job. Where is that money coming from? I heard a figure of £25m being mentioned, but I'm afraid that would barely scratch the surface, given the gulf that currently exists between Celtic and Rangers. Try doubling that instead, at the very least!

    2) He might prefer the Arsenal job, where money won't be a problem. I believe he's on the shortlist for that, too.

Not a fan as such mate, just keep an eye on their results. I'm as Liverpool fan so the Gerrard link is why I'm so interested.

Yes, they need big money but Gerrard to Arsenal? That would be incredible for a number of reasons.

Probably more chance of him going to the gunners than up here now. that capitulation will no doubt make him think twice(it would me). Its not so much about money, although lots will be needed, but its the whole way the club currently runs. The vibe has gone; too many people attacking from outside, while inside they just keep tripping themselves up.
Not saying a Gerrard type could not get things going again, but The hatred of the club is never going to go, as its now classed as fair game. In fact it seems more important for any that their own sides .
This more than the quality of the game here, drives box office away.
Celtic are a good team, and a well run club; but even them with their 60 odd thousand crowds need champions league money to keep afloat at the level they are at. So, other clubs really can never compete, due to only getting a single place at the table, and then after several tests at beginning of season when they are not at their best.
Only a fool or a very rich man would invest heavily in football in this country, unless they have ulterior motives

I think it'll happen, as it's coming from enough reliable sources now to for there to be something in it, although for the sake of Rangers, I hope he signed on the dotted line before yesterday's game, as that'd be enough to put anyone off from taking the job!

If the Gerrard thing doesn't happen, then it would be yet another public embarrassment for Rangers, at the end of a dreadful season, and simply too much for their supporters to take. However if it happens, the position suits both parties in many ways, such as:

    1) Gerrard's lack of managerial experience would be be reflected in his salary, which right now from that point of view, probably makes him affordable.

    2) His appointment would sell lots of season tickets, at a time when many of Rangers' season ticket holders will be thinking twice about renewing them.

    3) It would suit Gerrard, as he'd relish the challenge, and IMO is the right type of character for such a job (a winner). Plus in time if he's successful, it'd be great for his CV and act as the ideal stepping stone for getting a job managing in the English Premiership.

    4) There would be many players from all over the world who'd love to play for him, if Rangers could afford to sign them, which brings me onto the most important point...

*Therefore*, if he comes, he must be given SERIOUS amounts of cash (and the time) to do a proper rebuilding job of the team, from top to bottom, which is what's needed: a complete clear out, as none of the current Rangers players are good enough to wear the jersey. At a realistic estimate, I'd say that you're talking about a minimum of £30m, just to get 'the ball rolling', and then see what happens.

That's nowhere near enough to stop Celtic, but it would be enough to start the rebuilding, see how it goes, and then later make further investment, if things are going to plan. Plus, the appointment of Gerrard's no2 will equally be crucial, and needs to be someone who not only knows Scottish football inside out, but most importantly what the club means to the fans, which few of the current players have a scooby-doo about!

The problem for Rangers is that Celtic aren't just going to stand still and let them build and get stronger, without them doing the same. Therefore, you can be guaranteed that if Gerrard does become the new Rangers manager, Celtic will up the ante, financially, to ensure that they stay on top - and currently unlike Rangers, have the money to do so.

For me, as I've said, if Gerrard becomes the new Rangers manager, then it can only be good for Scottish football, by significantly raising the profile of our game, and in particular good for Celtic. The fact is, the more we're forced to become stronger, by signing better players to stay on top, the better a team we'll become, and that will only help us compete more in Europe, which is the arena where we now need to excel.

So bring on Gerrard [what about as player/manager too, for one season?] and bring on a proper challenge from Rangers, but for the sake of both Rangers and Scottish football, let's hope that, with a young and ambitious manager at the helm, such as Gerrard, Rangers aren't drawn into a spending war with Celtic, spending money that they can't afford, simply trying to stop Celtic from winning 10-in-a-row. As a Celtic supporter, I certainly want us to succeed in that respect, but not at the expense of Rangers once again going bankrupt.

Because if that happens again, I doubt that the club will ever recover...
