Default Paint (or veneer) job help

    Hi all.

I have a plinth for my Thorens and would like to know if anyone here (or could recommend someone) who could respray it in piano (high gloss) black?

...Or, to maybe veneer it and lacquer it to a piano gloss finish?

    Many thanks
    Jo

Just be aware that a "piano black" finish is not an easy finish to do and could be eye-wateringly expensive.

How about a vinyl wrap, like on a car ??
Try a signage place - it would be a heck of a lot cheaper and wouldn't take very long.

So how complicated is this Plinth? Could you just make a new one from a quality block of wood?

Something to bear in mind is the possible strata of the wood (assuming it is wood) used to build up the plinth. If the plinth is one huge block it will be easier to obtain a good finish: If it comprises several laminated layers I think a specialist would be best doing the piano black finish. If others, who are not especially adept at the furniture end of the market, handle the work - it may look good initially but it may subsequently suffer from splitting the paint along the lines of lamination.

My plinth comprises three layers and after reading up on the piano black finish I copped out and went for a 60s 'rexine' style trim. It was a pilot after all, but several years later I'm still living with it.

One thought is that there must be a number of highly specialised piano restorers across the country and if they are 'old school' they may just have a proper finisher who knows how to do this sort of work.
We were flooded in late 2015 and a neighbour had a family heirloom piano which they had taken to such a specialist for full restoration, rather than settle for the cash equivalent. Theirs was a veneered rather than black piano but it was still a marvellous piece of work when it came back.
    Maybe worth a google ??

There's a fantastic refinisher in Chester if that helps.
