    Default Trump's "shithole countries"

It seems odd to me that the furore about Donald Trump's alleged remarks about "shithole countries", which were not specific as far as I'm aware, have kicked up a large outcry from countries that some less tactful people might describe as exactly such, so they obviously have that 'self image' of themselves. Perhaps they should have just kept quiet?

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

I'm pretty sure he named the countries Geoff, if the account is correct of course, but I'm inclined to believe the story.

It does sound like something he would say, but it does seem that the source is someone who was not present, so who knows? It was a private meeting in the Oval Office and I'm guessing that after Watergate they don't tape everything that is said in there anymore:

One of the sources who was briefed on the conversation said that Trump said, "Why do we want all these people from Africa here? They're sh*thole countries ... We should have more people from Norway."

So far, it's just a story. If Trump said something along those lines, I've yet to see it exactly quoted.

I'm reading the book Fire and Fury at the moment, even if only half of it's factual, he's what I would describe as deranged - quite a scary read really.

It's more than that. Too many sources, including Republicans; and yes, he was referring to specific countries that had been discussed.

You're surely not trying to defend the dickhead are you?

    Where is the exact quote?

I don't think mentioning something adds up to 'defending'. Although free thinking people would regard that as democratically acceptable.

As for "too many sources", there have been many references recently to 'flat earth' believers. Should we take this idea as proven?

Actually, thinking about it more. Regardless of my views. To me, that statement/question sounds rather judgemental. Are we obliged to all share the same opinions, to toe some arbitrary line of acceptability, as it were?
