I can't stand the DT3 tweeter. Not sure if they always sounded harsh, or whether somehow they deteriorate over the decades. I replaced them in a pair of Magisters, as well as recapping the crossovers and changing the internal wiring, and I like the sound of the speakers now.
Be minded that I am a big fan of large drivers in sealed enclosures generally. (Interestingly, the 15 inch woofer in the Magisters come straight off the binding posts (not via the crossovers).)

The DT3 always had a bit of a 'sting' towards the upper end. Not as bad as the Philips tweeter used in the later 'SL' series speakers though.

The mid driver in the Magister is fairly benign, if not exactly perfect. It has slight colourations. It was good enough for use in several Radford speakers and the Ferrograph S1.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

Agreed about the midrange used in the Magister.
I've not heard the Phillips tweeter. Worse than the DT3 you say? Blimey.

The DT3 was supposedly a soft dome tweeter, but the dome was pretty rigid actually and had a bit of an unfortunate resonance around the 10kHz mark if I recall, which was mysteriously absent from response graphs published by Goodmans. The truncated housing flare in which the dome was situated did not help. Audax showed us how soft domes could be done with the HD 100 tweeter, a beautifully sweet sounding unit.

    Mysterious indeed. :-D
I've often wondered how reliable those specs and graphs are.

Same mid, tweeter (and shiny bass doping!) as the Magisters I think. Possibly same crossover too...?
