I have this Firestone MASS preamp, it's not passive but it does have a remote:

Thanks Alan - a non-compliant bid, eh! -- always interesting.

It does look sweet and some good vibes about it from t'interweb.
    I'll have a ponder if I may.

OK - thanks to all the folks who responded.

I have taken a slightly different route and decided to see if I can get even more performance out of my current pre (Philips Black Tulip 270).

It's all Alan Firebottle's fault, so blame him ....

    - Curious about the Firestone active pre that he offered I Googled to find any available info
    - a link came up for an Ebay listing by the Emporium for the same pre but with a fancy PSU
    - one of the "you may also be interested in" listings that eBay put up was for an Arcaydis Interface impedance matching widget, reviewed here
    - coo, interesting, I thought and put in a low-ball offer .... which was accepted.

    - so, I'll stay with my current pre for the nonce and see if the Arcaydis widget can squeeze even more juice out of it.

As I say, blame Alan Firebottle.
