Info on how and why they were used here, http://www.theatrecrafts.com/archive...995_oliver.pdf
Short answer is they used EQ to compensate. Interesting.
Current Lash Up:
TEAC VRDS 701T > Sony TAE1000ESD > Krell KSA50S > JM Labs Focal Electra 926.
The bass cancellation? Not sure that were bothered about that: only skimmed the article but seems they just used them as sound reinforcement for the vocals. He didn't want a 'boxy' colouration being added. Could you not use a bit of EQ just to flatten them out across the mid range for that purpose?

Regardless what us Armchair Audio weenies may think.
These obviously did what they wanted them to do.
First photo of the drivers in their 'Cradles' clearly suggested there was serious work and thought involved..
not to mention significant expenditures for purpose

I'm Dennis.
The chassis look very much a departure from usual Tannoy designs, and quite modern in that they are very cut down, which is done to reduce mid reflection from the frame.
The magnet also appears to be smaller than, from memory, the usual size they would use, although of course many were covered with a pot.
My instinct is that the drivers are a serious attempt at a solution to something.
