Daughter has nothing much in house audio wise. tellys and games machine. a cd , and she doesnt have many, go in that and played through tv. otherwise its a smartphone. they seem happy so maybe they are right lol

People have them because you can use them for the internet when out and about. That's why I got one. In fact I've got two. The sat nav has come in handy on a few occasions as well. If you are on contract you get a new one every 2 years, doesn't cost any extra. Also doubles up as a personal stereo, most new cars you can plug it straight into the dash, no need to have tapes or cds in the car anymore. There are lots of purely practical reasons to have one, just like the original mobile phones, bloody useful inventions.No, peer pressure to buy smartphones and iPods... Trust me, that's one of the main reasons why folk own them: because they've been 'made' to want them...!
