A Nagra SNSTR - a stereo version of this miniature recorder.
Amazing machines these - performance is staggering.

That is very cool. Never realised such a thing existed.

Cool. I've been watching The Man from UNCLE (9-11 every week-night on channel 61, True Entertainment .. don't miss it!), so I now want all the secret agent stuff ... one of those mini-recorders, a triangular badge with a number on it, a radio pen, and the sniper-luger gun kit, please
It was developed for the CIA by Nagra. The intials "SN" stand for 'Serie Noir' (Black Series) reflecting it's intended covert use.
Completely useless for domestic use: the item for sale is only part of the complete system. It can only record (on special 2mm wide tape, though it might be possible to use 1/8" cassette tape wound onto the reels) and has to be rewound by hand using the hand-crank. To play back the recording the recorder has to be fitted to a special dock made by Nagra.
Nice toy and a beautiful piece of engineering, but domestically it is only of interest as an objet d'art.
(Talking of spys and 'The Man from Uncle', a Nagra SN appeared in the film 'The Conversation', the Francis Ford Coppola film about a covert wire tapper, starring Gene Hackman.)
