    Default FS: KEF reference 105/4

I've decided that these have to go ( honest !! )
They are simply fabulous and in my opinion hard to beat if you don't mind their quirky looks.
They're not in mint condition but damn good for over 30 years old .
They are on their original castors and come with their grills and covers.
They are a matched pair .
Their protection circuit and led positioning lights have been bypassed ( as recommended).

Collection will be from Milton Keynes along with a demo .

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

This post makes me feel that it is a shame that I cannot have great facilities for buying and trying so many of the previous and iconic past speaker designs.

I think back to the period of each, in which I made a decision to go another way after auditioning a new contender, and wonder what a few more hours with the non chosen than a quick audition, would have revealed.

It is also very interesting to see to what degree we really have moved on in the intervening time.
My friend and I imagine a left to right conveyer belt and a control at our seating position with which we can 'scroll the belt and one of our old systems appears for audition.

Scroll to Lowthers with Lowther EL84 amp, then to Lancasters with Quad 303, then ATC 50s with AXI pre, etc.

Agreed Pharos, that's why I ended up with so many speakers. Thankfully I'm at the happy end of the road now unless I win the lottery.
The 105/4's are absolutely amazing hard to beat Speakers imo and they have bettered many many others that I've bought then moved on .
I've no issue with keeping them just space is an issue .

For me it's the intrigue that maybe, just maybe, there was some magic that the designer hit, and we never heard due to circumstances - missed gems.

The pair of Cambridge R50s on Ebay are another I'd like to revisit. They were used by the police at Denmark Hill for forensic voice monitoring. It looks as though they have a Decca tweeter for mid.

A friend of mine had a pair. From memory the driver line up is KEF B139 (bass), 110 (mid), T27 (treble) with a Coles 4001 supertweeter. The ribbed speaker cover made a superb diffraction grating!
