    Default Hello - Lurker unveiled

    Hello,

I thought I'd posted on the forum but it seems I hadn't - just much lurking indeed, particularly Past Masters, the Drawing Board and Digital Expressions

I've wandered in here from AudioKarma (which I also like) as it has a more local UK aspect.

I've got three systems set up:

    1) Denon DCD 960 CD player / Chromecast / Dual CS 503 ---- Kramer 6410 DAC---- Sansui AU-317---- Celestion 33s paried with some old wharedales with the tweeters removed, 12" drivers and a modified low pass filter as crossover

    2) TV into crappy £8 DAC / Focusrite 18i8 --- Ferrograph F307 amp --- Goodmans Magnum SL

    3) Macbook ---- Sansui AU-2900--- Wharfedale Dentons

I've enjoyed messing around recapping old speakers and mixing and matching for different sound qualities. On the lookout for another second hand low to midrange DAC to replace the £8 amazon job

EDIT - favourite artist of all time - mid to late 70s Joni Mitchell, but have wide taste from Albion Band to Wu Tang Clan. Steely Dan is -of course - fantastic for messing around with audio setups

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

    Hi Sam. Welcome to AOS.

I see you like older gear. Vintage and classic equipment is very popular here.

If you're after a decent older DAC, look at maybe an Audio Alchemy Digital Decoding Engine or something from Theta.

Feel free to join in the chat. It's a friendly place with lots going on.

    Enjoy the forum,
    Geoff.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

Yes the cheaper end of vintage is where I've been for a few years. As I'm sure you know, it's stunning the 'bang per buck' sound quality you can get with older gear that's still very serviceable.

Perversely (perhaps) as a vintage head, rather than vinyl, I tend to listen to Spotify premium as it's so damn easy. As I slowly move up the DAC scale I'm sure the problems with compressed Spotify files will be revealed. I have had a trial with lossless TIDAL and can hear the difference. Waiting for spotify to offer a similar service.
