    I'm Simon.

Default FS: Cary 805C 845/211 monoblock power amps

For sale my personal pair of Cary 805C monoblock power amps.

I bought them 8 years ago from a Cary dealer in the USA and then converted them to 240V mains. They have been in regular use, without issue, and provide a big, dynamic sound with depth and clarity.

They were modified before I got them to ape the earlier Cary 805 which can switch between 211 or 845 output valves, the mods I am aware of are:

    • Switchable between 845 and 211 output valves
    • Carda copper binding posts on 8 ohm output
    • Feedback output and level switches removed from circuit - amp runs without negative feedback
    • Rel-Cap Exotica PCU copper foil coupling capacitors

They are both in very good condition, with the only marks on the chassis on the top plate of one amp, as shown here:

The amps will be supplied complete as originally delivered, including:

    • Full set of valves - 6SL7, 300B, 211 & 845
    • Test lead for setting bias on 300B
    • Original printed user manual
    • Service manual
    • Cardboard shipping boxes
    • Wooden shipping crates

The valves which come with the amps are:

    • NOS Sylvania 6SL7WGT
    • New Genalex Golden Lion 300B matched pair
    • Taylor Tubes (Chinese) 845 matched pair
    • NOS General Electric VT-4-C (211) matched pair

Alternatively the Elrog 300B and 211 valves listed separately do work very nicely

A new set of Cary 805 AE come in at over £10,000, I am asking £4,250.00 including delivery within the UK.

As an owner of 805c's I think you owe it to yourself to at least listen to these if you are in the market for new amps - the beauty of 300b and the balls of 845/211 - amazing.

Typically 845 / 211 amps are pretty ballsy dynamic affairs.

I have a huge 211 collection. I'd recommend Amperex as the choice/peak of NOS 211 goodness, above RCA and GE. Which may not be what you read elsewhere. But then again Amperex are hard to come by and I am sure many haven't ever heard them, even among 211 amp owners. I own 7 off them LOL.

Anyway, food for thought for the new owner.

The cool tubester will deck these out with Telefunken RS237 just to say f'you. Be sure they have some definitive third Reich markings for extra cred. They do exist with such.

Then sell them when you retire and you should be sorted. So long as you haven't worn them out.

A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

Try lifting them - 45kg each - backbreaking stuff thanks to the biggest trannies and best chassis in the biz. If I had spare cash id buy these within a heartbeat for biamping.

I have a bunch of GE 211/VT-4-C and they sound much better than the Chinese 211s I have tried. I heard some RCA in these amps, and some Air Tight 211 and they were nice, but must admit I haven't heard Amperex or the Telefunkens.
A guy in Greece did some 211 rolling and seems to agree with you. http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/loung...s-rolling.html

In my system with these amps I have found they really come together with the Elrog 300B as the driver valve.

I did have a genuine US made Taylor 211 since you mention Chinese copies thereof.

I gave up trying to get a quad they really are hard to find. The same was true of a United Electronics 211 I also had (and sold) - it had what appeared to be the best internal construction of any UE version of the 211 - unfortunately it also appeared to be the rarest.

I'd like a quad of metal plate STC or even early RCA metal plates but again very rare. Silbatone had some STCs at Munich in 2011. Apparently rich Koreans have no trouble finding them
