My music collection is worth far less than my kit but I don't see that as loving the kit more than the music. To listen to the music I love I needed kit good enough to play it with. Those with huge music collections rarely play much of it anyway as there's not enough time to do so, that in itself is similar to box swapping. I stream music mostly with the odd session of vinyl. I still have all my CDs so should the Internet go tits up I've got vinyl, cd and cassette to fall back on.
