Greetings from Philadelphia, PA, USA
I'm a long time audiophile, having bought my first record (Run DMC's Raising Hell) with allowance money when I was 10 to use on my parent's basic system. Bought my first Technics 1200 in 1991 and started hosting local parties with friends and falling in love with digging through crates of old and vintage records, discovering classic rock and hidden gems I would have never otherwise heard if it weren't for the beat-up listening stations at the long gone record shops in Philly and NYC. Got an on-air show at WKDU 91.7FM through my college years and paid for a lot of toys through performing at college parties and such, but it was mostly an excuse to buy more records and keep upgrading my gear at home (which was my mobile DJ rig set-up in my living room). Had amazing Carver pro amps that I kick myself today for getting rid of feeding some very oversized (but nicely modified) Peavy and CV cabinets. Got a real job, stopped performing and traded the pro gear for the best receiver I could afford at the time (a very overpriced Denon model) running Paradigm speakers. Upgrades over the years got a bit out of hand, and then traveling and downsizing apartments forced smaller and more compact systems with emphasis on home theater and the movie experience. In 2013 I got a pair of Futursonic Ear monitors through a friend at the company as a gift and it took all of 10 sec of Smashing Pumpkins Cherub Rock playing to remind me what I had been missing in music quality. Have been slowly dusting off my old vinyl collection, building back a decent 2 channel system and obsessively replacing the records lost and damaged over the years as well as hunting down the rarer issues (and modern reissues) I know I'll want in my library. Just finishing the rebuild of a 1210 m5g and looking forward to obsessing over A/B comparisons of various pressing differences and enjoying my music again.
Looks like a great community here, thanks for all the great gear info (have been lurking for a bit, had to create an account to post and get some specific questions on an upcoming gear purchase).
