Default Monarchy SM -70 Pro Question

Still have fun memories of listening to Geoffrey's (Walpurgis) SM-70 Pro, driving a pair of his usual Tannoy's.

Have always admired the SM-70 Pro's build quality, and the Krell alike appearance. But of course, this all comes at a much smaller scale.

Is there some good written reports, of the SM-70 Pro, successfully driving inefficient bookshelf speakers?

    Cheers.

Both the SM-70 and SM-70 Pro drove my tiny Usher S520 speakers well.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

Getting an SM-70 Pro is in the pipeline. Maybe by Summer, I'll get one, If I'm lucky that is!

Finding one on ebay is near impossible now. You may get lucky with dealers Shane. Bear in mind, it needs a damn good pre-amp! An ordinary passive won't work. A decent valve pre or TVC will.

Suggest one of the Schiit pres. If you are considering using one SM70Pro in a two channel stereo set up then the Schiit Saga. The Freya comes into it's own using mono set up ( 2 SM70Pro's ) as you can go balanced which is my preferred set up.

I highly doubt Geoff, going down the mono bridged road with the SM-70 Pro, Michael.

Don't really understand the point you are trying to make Shane. It is however a fact that one can use the SM70Pro in mono mode but ofcourse you need two units for this. If you have two units and try mono mode you can use balanced inputs ( or single ended ) and the power output increases to 80 watts into 8 ohms. This is CC Poons ( the maker ) preferred set up but some may say he just wants to sell two units! Have tried just one in Stereo and two in balanced I preferred the balanced set up in my rig but maybe Geoffs Tannoys are more sensitive than my speakers. I also tried monos running RCA but got a nasty hum hoop. Balanced avoids this in my set up. You pays your money etc etc.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”
