They were intended as a rival to the KEF105. They used KEF B139 and an Audax mid and tweeter. Falcon had no input except manufacturing the RAM designed crossover. I remember we loaned RAM a pair of KEF105's to reverse engineer their own version - hence the 400. We had an open evening where customers could hear both the 105 and 400 together switching between the two very interesting comparison. Never felt the bass on the 400 to be successful - the 105 was far superior. The midrange was certainly more pronounced on the 400 without being fatigue inducing. Never did like the top end of thise Audax tweeters although many people did - again more open but not fatigue inducing. Although the 400 sounded more impressive than the 105 on A/B comparisons I couldn't help concluding that the 105 was a better listen overall in the long term. Nevertheless, the 400 was an excellent attempt at a 105 rip off.

Wow, fantastic, I've not seen those speakers before.

Let's have a proper pic without having to enLARGE it.

    Yes, a KEF R105 knock-off indeed.
I think they look stunning! - I've heard and much liked the 105 and would love to hear the RAMs. Scally18?

It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

I remember RAM proudly announcing at the time that it was the first time that the B139 had been used in a sealed enclosure in a commercially designed speaker. The quality and amount of bass from the contempary KEF 105 comfortably exceeded that from the RAM 400.

I thought they were a good attempt at a 105 clone and had their own signature. The midrange was more pronounced than the 105 but not fatiguing in any way. I didn't think the bottom end was as good as the 105 and I didn't like that Audax tweeter in any speaker at the time let alone the RAM 400. We sold far more 105's than 400's. More suited to 'pop' music than anything else. They had their followers, it's just that the 105 had more.
