Default MM magnet phono amp resistance plugs

Having read that most MM phono amps, including mine, have a fixed 47k that may not be optimum for all MM cartridges I decided to make this to see if I could notice any benefits.image.jpgimage.jpg

    Parallel loading gives:-

    100k plug = 32k

    220k plug = 39k

Finished soldering at midday today, will be testing over next few days, after refitting my MM AT 440mlb.

Have just won an Ortofon Vivo Red on eBay after missing buying yours some time ago

Ah, that's a very good value cartridge IMO. Very neutral in presentation but definitely not boring. good choice.

If you're going to do some experiments I would suggest playing about with capacitance as well as resistance.

I do similar with my London Reference. It sounds quite noticeably better on 33k. I use a single male / female inline converter plug.

I noticed this phenomenon several years ago, but it does depend on the system. 47k is fine with my system, whereas 33k sounded better with my friend's system.

But Deccas are a law unto themselves, and I have never noticed any improvement with reducing the load impedance for other fixed coil cartridges (Shure, ADC B&O and AKG).

Interestingly, I have read of some American enthusiasts experimenting with reducing the load by increasing the impedance to 1MOhm. Curious.
