Default Douk Audio budget tubed pre amp and Firebottle rebuild

I picked up a Douk Audio Affordable 12AX7 Valve Tube Preamp

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Douk-Audio...item3f54325cd2

Sent it to Fire bottle the amp is based is based on the old Marantz seven circuit .
He rebuilt the circuit and turned one input into a phono stage and sorted the power supply ,I was using a Arcam A65 as a pre and two Arcam Alpha p8 power amps.
So after burning in the tubes the sound was great but just lacking something so I made a shielded mains lead that improved things tried a couple of different interconnects then I used a set given to me by member here after the dog chewed a couple of sets .
So after fitting the Chord Calpso leads the system is just stunning stereo seperation is superb bass and treble spot on.
This pre amp has turned my bugdet system system into something that I thought I would never dream of getting in sound reproduction on a very tight budget .

I have to thank Alan for the work he has done re designing the circuit and the power modifications and it is still on chinese tubes at the momment.

Not so. An integrated amp can be used as a power amp. I may be wrong, but I believe the 8000S may have a pre-amp bypass.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

I don't recommend one of these budget pre-amps as bought, the design is flawed. Also for those in the UK the 220V rating is too low, the valve heaters will be overrun on 240V mains.

I fitted a bucking transformer and did a complete redesign for Gerry.
