    Default Cheap Chineseese Component Challenge

The challenge is for you to purchase and develop a system as cheaply as possible from China. This system will live on my desk. So, I purchased this for £7 delivered.

    It's a power amplifier.

I don't see why not, most amps have mains transformers.

That sounds a bit of fun Andy. Like the idea of putting together a very very cheap system but being an audiofool I would still want it to sound good.

I have been reading some very good reviews of Schitt audio products which seem to engage the philosophy of top end performance for a few bucks, but I think for seriously cheap you would have to go with Chinese for maximum bang for bucks.

It will be interesting what folk dig up?

I've been thinking on a headphone only system for a friend of mine who lives in an apartment, no loud music allowed. I was telling him at band practice about small tubed headphone amps and he was astounded, one of the main problems with good audio is that most people don't even know it exists. Those Chinese tube amp kits for headphones can be had fairly cheap. The 'phones would be the most expensive part. His music is in his notebook, so a DAC and amp and he's good.

Report back in 18 months time. That seems to be the typical MTBF for cheap Chinese sourced equipment (based on my experience with DVD players).
Have you listened to this month's choice in the Album Club?

There are times when you can’t do the sensible thing, when you can’t act like a responsible adult at all; you just have to do whatever insane thing comes into your head. When bad people do it they end up murderers, when good people do it they end up heroes, and when the rest of us do it we end up looking like total idiots. But when’s that ever stopped us?
