    Default Dual Mono Passive preamp.

Now having finally sorted out my amplifier conundrum i am able to let this go.

Built for me by Dunc (Tubehunter)i can only describe it as a work of art. Some pics:

This was built to match my Quad 405 monoblocks so as with all passives a sensitive amp is required.

Charcroft Z foil resistors throughout and high quality seiden switches make it easily the best passive pre you will ever hear.

    Here on Hificollective http://www.hificollective.co.uk/step...ft-seiden.html

They describe it as the best attenuator money can buy. Priced at £1284.03+vat+p&p and that is just for a stereo one!.

This is Dual mono, built, boxed and finished for half that would cost!.

I'm not looking to make a profit on this just to cover costs.

This, i reckon would easily cost 2k or more in a shop so someone grab a fantastic pre at a very good price.

    £750ono.

    Thumbs up A one-off opportunity

If anyone has any doubt as to the VFM of this superb, hand-built passive preamp, have a look here at how much a SINGLE stereo Z-Foil populated Seiden switch costs ALONE, on HFC: http://www.hificollective.co.uk/step...ft-seiden.html

Wot - you missed it? Ok, let me help you out...... It's priced up there at £1284.03+vat!!

So, for £750ono, you're getting two of those bad-boys, in dual-mono, plus all the solid-silver, point-to-point hardwiring and a lovely case!

I've also used this passive extensively in my own system, and sonically it is probably the best I've ever heard, with virtually no 'character' of its own. It simply lets the music flow in all its glory. For those looking for a veritable 'open window' onto the music, this is it!

That should help put things into perspective, so get yer wallets out, folks

I'm a little confused. This is advertised initially as "probably the best ladder step attenuator money can buy." But you are describing it as "easily the best passive pre you will ever hear".

So does it trash all TVCs?

    Hi Marco
I am genuinely interested in this kit but have an aversion to over egging of the mix (see what I did there with the Easter theme?). In terms of input cost, one is not actually getting two stereo attenuators but as you say two times mono which I'm guessing is only the same outlay for those resistors.

"probably the best ladder step attenuator money can buy."

Hi Chris, yes this was the description on the hifi collective site.

As regards my own comment I have compared this to a very expensive TVC and without wishing to put products/names down there was to me and others no contest.

I asked Duncan to build me the best passive pre he could with Zfoils throughout...so he stuffed £576 worth of the things into it .
