    Default Teradak Chameleon NOS DAC

    SOLD
I have had this DAC for a number of years, as an upgrade from the Valab DAC, also a NOS Teradak design. It has only been supplanted by a Benchmark DAC3 at over £2000, which has additional features that I now want. It IS a better sounding DAC, but at that price it ought to be!
The Chameleon was designed as a response to all the modders who took the Valab as far as it would go, and as such has space inside for bigger and better caps, plus other changes. Naturally I went beyond even that! After trying various caps I settled on Russian KBG PIO caps, bypassed with FT-1 Teflons. But they have to sit on top of the case, with solid silver wire links to the board. I will include the original Wima 4.7uF MKS caps, and a pair of Valab polypropylene caps in case you want play or keep everything inside the case. But the KBG caps are the ones I settled on.
I also tried different I/V conversion resistors, including Shinkoh tantalums, Takman metal film and carbon film, but the Texas Components naked foil were clear winners.
This is not the latest version of the Chameleon, but I don't know if they are better or not.
I am asking £160 inc p&p, and if the buyer wants me to I will resolder the Wima caps back in place. But I wouldn't advise it, personally. The other caps will be included anyway.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”
