I have bought a TD160 off here and having looked and read a few threads I fancy making a plinth. What timber is preferred I presume hardwood and are there any recommended dimensions thickness etc.

They're sprung, and hollow so the choice of wood doesn't really matter. You can dampen the inside and underside of the plinth if needed.
I would go with a hardwood that you find attractive, and looks good with the rest of your gear.
You can change the dimensions of the plinth to match any arm you want, and finish it however you want.

Excellent thanks I'll dig through some bits and see if I have anything suitable.

I agree, some hardwood should work nicely because of the extra weight.
I love wenge. I have tried it in a preamp chassis and it was excellent and super beautiful. Really difficult to work with though. Splinters like crazy without proper tools.

I would use a combination of woods glued together. This helps with reducing resonances. Looks good and also makes it easier to construct since you can avoid having to use a router!
