Default audio research d70 mark 2

a very kind wammer has lent me this amazing power amp . can`t believe it is so old [came out in 83 I believe]

using with a modded velleman pre

I have to return henrys D70 mark 2 this week but it has been rocking away every night for quite a few hours . tremendous synergy with the velleman pre . for some reason the 36.5 hummed with it so velleman in situ .

it doesn`t have the very very wide soudstage of the msb/dm combo but oh my gosh it really SINGS . it grips the verity with a vice like grip and they sound very special . crisp , detailed and holographic . can`t believe that those kt120 have made such a amp sing .

Excellent. Nice to see a long lasting piece of equipment still giving good service.

    That's a lot of cables!

Is it a pair of output valves per channel?

i think so but not sure

yes its a temporary arrangement with the cables , epic twin from each channel giving 4 separate speaker cables . really grabs the verity Rienzi beautifully

The amp will be very decent without the KT120s, I'm sure. I've just spent 3 months with KT150s... No guarantee of magic.

I remember hearing some V140 monos driving ML Requests and they were just incredible. Tracking down a pair of those would be well worthwhile.

Yes, they seem to be universally lauded but think they're a bit expensive. Good used one would be the way to go maybe.

    Re-valving would be a tear-jerker
