    It's the little printed circuit board that sits under the red female plug I need to solder onto so should be easy enough, is that the one you mean?

    Ah. That should be OK. Same principle applies there though. Using too much heat for too long can lift PCB tracks from the board.
    It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

    Well I didn't get very far, took the arm out of the box only to remember I don'y have a grub screw for the pillar

    True. If you cant find one you might have to recut the thread to something you can use. Spare parts dont seem easy to get
