    Default Hi

    Hello.
I am a music lover, but not quite an audio enthusiast in the sense that many here are: I am often seeking ways of improving my listening experience, but I do not have a lot of spare cash with which to buy hi-fi equipment! Hence I am always looking for the best value options, the best bang for buck. I think I have achieved pretty good results using the following: FLAC and high bitrate MP3 on Raspberry Pi with Moode Audio player (have also tried Volumio and Rune), IQAudio DAC+ HAT board, SMSL SA-60 D-class amp, 20 year old QUAD 77-10L bookshelf speakers (by Spendor). Looking forward ot learning from the folk here, and hopefully contributing to a few threads.
    Cheers,
    Luke

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

Thanks both, I've been dipping into the forum over the years and just registered in order to post a question on one of the Pi threads. Looking forward to being a bit more active where I have anything to contribute

It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

I listen mainly to genres such as jazz, blues, rock, folk, classical, so called modern classical and ambient-type stuff. I used to be fanatical about reggae and hip-hop too, so they feature big in my collection, though I listen to them less exclusively than I did at one time!

I plan to upgrade my DAC soon, and also probably one or both of my power supplies (trying to work out whether Pi or amp will give most benefit), but then I am going to try to resist the urge to tinker
