    Default JVC TT-71 replinth

Although I mentioned this deck in my welcome thread I realise I've never posted about it's completion.
    It started like this:

and went through a few experiments with different materials, including no plinth:

    Chopping board plinth:

    Slate plinth:

Of all these I marginally preferred the chopping board prototype. So I went ahead with a ply build using MU25, a compressed and denser version of beech ply. This is what I ended up with.

    Then decorated

It's a lovely deck to use and fortunately sounds good too.

Looks good. Like the use of ali styled strips.. long arm too.

Slate takes getting used too, but ultimately rewarding tho

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

Thanks, I've used plenty of slate before with Lencos where it works well but found it a bit too much with the JVC.

Here's one with a cut down PTP and a crazy arm - the RSA-1, wish I'd never sold that!

How did you apply the decor to the ply plinth?
How does it all fasten into the plinth, I'm working on my first plinth for a Garrard 401, very interested in how other people have solved problems and worked out how to mount arms etc.
My first plinth is a prototype stacked ply type that is a work in progress, I think it will end up as scrap but I'm learning as I go.

    Hi Tim,
It's a style I've used before - somewhere between Bauhaus and American diner Basically I inserted thinner ply between the Mu25 layers.

The radiuses were cut using a jigsaw then any voids filled and the whole thing rollered with a Farrow and Ball eggshell. This time I left a little of the roller texture on the finish as it gives it a look sort of like leather - to my mind anyway. I've used the same technique but with lots of wet and dry paper between coats to get a flat finish. Here's one I did earlier using a rather knackered Goldring G99 as base. The shiny trim in both cases is simply self adhesive car chrome trim.

I'm no great woodworker so basically it's lots of elbow grease and patience as you build up the paint layers
