    Cool ' afternoon Gents

Hello there and thanks for letting me in

I've been interested in HiFi since I got my first real paycheck. First system was a Rega Planar 2 / NAD3020 / AR18's purchased from Billy Vee in Lewisham on 9th Aug 1982 for a grand total of £311! Why do I know this? 'cos I've just flogged some kit on e-bay and came across the receipt!

Other than my current Spendor S8's, that was the only kit I ever bought new, I've waited for everything else to come within a price I'm willing to pay for it. Tight? Yep!

So, my current kit is (don't laugh) an LP12 / Hercules / Basik+ / Goldring something : Karik / Kairn and a newly aquired LK140 bi-wired into the aforementioned S8's. To be honest, I hadn't changed anything for about 20 years until about 6 months ago when the Valhalla power supply decided to explode (literally) which forced me to look at an alternative. Hence the Hercules. That made quite a difference to my vinyl sound so I started to think about other tweaks. To my mind, the LK100 power amp was the weak link. I'd heard a Klout many years ago and would dearly love one but can't justify the price they still command. The LK140 seemed like a compromise and I got a near mint model off the 'bay last week. Wow! That's a huge difference and I've found myself listening to the collection late into the night for several nights now! My only concern is that the CD sound is quite bright. That maybe because I'm used to the old LK100 maybe not? I'll live with it a while longer and see. Currently wondering if the Beresford SEG would tame that? How would it work with the Karik?

Musical preferences: Blues, Rock, jazz, electronic, classical.... anything really except Country & Western

' looking forward to some interaction and opinion sharing. Having had a quick browse, it looks like a great forum!

    Cheers, P

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

Hi Mike, Welcome to the forum
Small world as I know Billy Vee very well and been in many times over the years.
Bought a pair of B&W CM7's from them when they just came out (Sold them quickly though as I found I wanted the Mission 752 Freedoms back, which I had previously - that's hifi for ya )
When did you leave South East London for Shropshire ? I'm assuming you did once live in London, going by your Billy Vee purchase.

    Hi Rob,
Small world indeed! I left Sarf London 10 years ago now. Can't say as I miss much, just the good HiFi shops and a ready supply of Dunns River Jerk Seasoning

It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!
