Thanks Gary didn't know that .

No, not quite. Silver sulphide is an insulator with a resisitivity of ~ 2. 10-3 Ohm.m (or about 100,000 times that of pure silver). Silver suphide is however very soft, so the tarnish film will be easily cut through to the base silver plating when a plug is inserted into the socket.

As such the sockets shouldn't need 'cleaning'.

Is that an ordinary cotton bud or a "medical grade" cotton bud?

I will wear a rubber glove so the shocks don't feel too bad!

    It's an interesting topic

    -3. -1
10 to the power of -3(Ω cm)to the power of -1 Is the formula I have for electrical conductivity. Can't put this in the correct format for some reason?

Silver Sulphide is also used as a semiconductor.

It has interesting properties as discovered by Michael Faraday in 1833.

Resistors using Silver have been known to 'grow' Silver Sulphide whiskers causing a direct short.

None of this really helps the OP though, it is interesting. If anyone needs to discuss the conductivity of above I suggest starting a new topic on this issue.

    Naim quote:

silver sulphide (Ag2S) is a semiconductor, ... "The nominal resistivity of silver sulfide is 0.1 to 10 ohm-m

Which is quite a bit higher than the figure I gave.

And this one ( I like this seller ) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Silver-Pla...item1e5ef8a311
I have ordered the second one you recommended Brian and in fact it looks very similar to my current double socket. A few years back I went from a switched to an unswitched copper to and An unwitched silver and the difference was noticeable. The unswitched silver also has nice tight sockets.
