Or not so solid; with the recent hot weather the soft cheeses such as Brie de Mieux, Camembert and my favourite, Pont-l'Évêque are ripening so quickly you can eat them with a spoon!

Well, if not with a spoon, they are easily spread with a knife.

Had some lovely Queso Iberico the other day. A little bit like Manchego, but with a more complex flavour. Highly recommended.

Marco's earlier assessment this evening of my rapid fall to disgrace being caused by a lack of fromagistical indulgences was fairly close to the mark. The cheese box is empty & has been for the last 2 or 3 days for some reason.
Tomorrow we will be embarking on a pilgrimage to worship at the altar of Aristaios.

(Roughly translated, we're off to Booth's supermarket to buy some cheese. Aristaios was the Greek God of cheese-making)

Oh! The education to be gleaned here in AoS:

Would seem we have to thank him for honey and olive oil, as well as cheese.

Well, we nipped off to Greece this last week to check out the rumours about yer man Aristaios. We couldn't find any rock solid incriminating evidence of his involvement in the cheese, oil & honey racket, but what we did find was a bar in Agia Efimia, the little place we stayed in on Kefalonia that offered a complimentary plate of cheese when you ordered drinks.

Now, that's got to be a good thing!

Well, old Aristaios yielded up a new one for me this afternoon.
Lunch was some fresh and warm crusty bread, cucumber, olives and Ogleshield unpasteurised cheese from Somerset.
Apparently, it’s "firm, yellow and has an almost wine-like, soft flavour. It’s very similar to the French Raclette"

Our piece was very ripe and tasted almost like a good ripe Brie but still firm in texture, but perhaps a little bit too high on the 'old socks scale' for some folks.
    Yum!

Sounds lovely, Chris, and right up my street! I hope that you had something nice to drink with it, too?

Personally, I can't eat nice cheese and bread without having some decent red wine, a quality real ale, or some nice cider (scrumpy-type), along with it!

Going through a bit of a Compté phase at the moment.

In particular Tesco's Le Chalet de Vevy, Médaille D'Argent, Paris 2011.

    Yummy!
