Is there any way to safely remove permastat from the surface of a record without damage ??
I put this on my "The Cars" in the 80s, and its an Original Master recording and now deeply regret that

I'm Chris.
Hi Alan
You could ask the manufacturer, http://web.rtpcompany.com/cgi-bin/mail.cgi
May just be be thankful not more LP's were treated that way
Cheers / Chris
Pinched from the net.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!
I believe it creates an ultra thin polycarbonate film. Sounds nasty. (probably literally)

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".
“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”
"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”
“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

I briefly used Permastat in the 70s. I quickly learned not to use it after it wrecked my copy of Queen's First EP. I recall a lot of surface noise and a build-up of grot on the stylus. I'm convinced to this day that I followed the instructions religiously since I had few records at the time and so took great care of each. It was said to improve after a few plays on the basis that your stylus would clean the excess out of the grooves but although that worked on some it didn't on others.
Pete
I only ever used it on new LPs thinking I was preserving that 1st play sound
However it was a mixed bag of results and in some cases its starts to release its self intermittently from the surface clogging up your stylus and producing excess surface noise.
My "the cars" LP has no surface noise but sounds strange so I'm sure the permastat is still on there but masking the actual grove profile.
Would be nice to find a way to remove it without damage.

Wet cleaning on a machine seems to remove it. After cleaning LP sounds 'cleaner', more open, more natural. May need more than one clean. I've done plenty like this with no problems.
