    I'm Derek.

Default Hi from Dalgety Bay, UK

    Hello!

I'm new onboard and wanted to say hello!

I'm from an old school Hifi background, big fan of Mission kit (when it actually was Mission), Monitor Audio kit and Linn (got to support the local hero!)

Moved from that into an AV focused system, Linn speakers but with a Pioneer amp (an LX82) and doing a lot more listening to headphones, usually straight out of my phone (modern life, kids, competition to use the living room) and have suddenly realised that I've stopped enjoying music (essentially because my system sounds rubbish).

I'm restructuring my system and the LX82 is history, a Anthem MRX310 and a Beresford Bushmaster Mk2 DAC are about to go in, all in an attempt to get some musicality back in there!

I listen (on the whole) to the music of my youth, Pink Floyd, ELO, Dire Straits, The Eagles, Queen with some modern infiltrators courtesy of my kids (but don't let them know, I've a reputation as an old fud to keep up!)

Hope to be on here a bit and share my progress

Hi and welcome, you're just along the road from me.
“Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of fuel. Sentimental people call it inspiration, but what they really mean is fuel. I have always needed fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio”

Anybody else remember the good old days of the HiFi show in Edinburgh at the hotel next to the Zoo?

Hi Derek. Welcome from me too.

Hope you have fun getting your system sounding good. Tell us how it develops.

    Enjoy the forum,
    Geoff.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

Aye, welcome Derek. Hope you solve your troubles.. ive just moved into a headphone system for private listening and really enjoying it. Think you need to do better than out of phone though as i found it not quite good enough.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”
