They must be having a giraffe. Obviously the room is available or they wouldn't quote a price to begin with, but they would rather have it stand empty than make some money.

Good luck with that business model.

    A fancy Italian restaurant?

Are we talking about the same venue as the one last year, Rich, in what seemed like in the middle of a dodgy-looking housing estate? As much as the pub we were in was fine for our purposes, I doubt the surrounding area would have the required clientele to make a "fancy Italian restaurant" pay!

Anyway, hope you get something else sorted soon

No mate, I'm talking about the Windmill, the one just off the A19 where we held previous NEBO events.

I am starting to worry that NEBO brings with it the kiss of death for these places as the last one is now shut indefinitely and the previous one where nobody was happy with the sound has been demolished.
One of these days... I'm going to cut you into little pieces.

They took our comments about the acoustics to heart, then?

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

I'm hoping for evidence to prove it. I won't be able to check out any prospective venues this weekend as there are two landmark birthday celebrations in the family and I'm likely to be drunk/hungover most of it.

Next weekend when Mrs B is back from her work trip we've got several days off so I'll take her out for lunch a few times with ulterior motives of checking out venues.
