    Default testing a speaker

I have a nagging feeling one of my speakers plays slightly louder than the other. I can't put my finger on it exactly but one definately seems slightly lacking in something..... assuming I've checked everything else in my system (connections, swapped speakers, etc etc) and have found no issues how would I go about checking / testing said speaker?

Maybe I'm just going slightly potty but it would be interesting to hear your thoughts.

    Cheers

Quite tricky one this.Im cant give you anything technical well i will try. Do you have anything stored behind the speaker in question - IE other HI-FI? could be a reflection? - Possible amplifier fault or balance issue....I would try swapping speakers to see if the problem persists then you will know if its the speakers - or amplifier - or source? could be any number of things....

We are here to help Ben.....

If it's rear ported, it could be room geometry if one speaker is more "out" than the other.

Definitely swap them over to check

Cheers guys. The speakers are front ported so no issues there, the "louder" of the 2 is closer to the corner of the room so maybe that's an issue? The "quieter" one has far more space to the side of it.......Il swap them over at some point just to see what that does

Well if the same side is still louder when you swap them over then you've ruled out the speakers.

Ben I had the same problem and it is very annoying...

For me it was just a valve swap around that sorted it... I tried everything before realising what the problem was...

If your setup is not valves do you have a balance control on your amp as this is what I tried initially to see how far out the left/right speakers were and to see if I could equal them out with slight use of the control , then I swapped the speaker cables over at the amp end to see if the problem then swapped over to the other speaker which would at least rule out room placement problems

Even though I did find out my problem was a valve issue it certainly did show that room placement of the speakers has a lot to do with their left/right balance..

I don't know if that makes any sense....

I had this problem recently. It was speaker positioning. The speakers are front ported btw. Adjusting balance didn't help.
