Default On Another Job Hunt - Been here Bofore (a few times now)

Well, within the next week or so I will be on the job hunt again. About to be made redundant, I really thought this was my retirment job, but not to be.
I have a few leads to follow up on,

    * one is a bit of a career change. I will get an interview very shortly with a company that provides specialist training to the Electrical industry. This position has really peeked my interest.
    * I will also get an interview with a company I have previously worked for (an enjoyed immensly) which would be back in to Semiconductor manufacturing
    * A possibility of an interview which would mean commuting on a weekly basis (job is continental shifts 4on/4off) another Semiconductor manufacturing position.

I may get the chance to stay on where I am and help de-commission for an initial 2 months or so, with the posibility of a further 3 months after that.
The site currently has 2of 132kV commissioned connections to the grid. Which take 4 years to plan and execute to commission. But in the back of my mind is the nagging thought that a company will find that interesting and do something with the site. Would be good to stay on and see what is done with the site, but don't wish to get left behind in a dead job.

One of the main problems is that of timing, I will be entitled to some redundancy but getting things sorted to happen at the right moment could be a bit of a balancing act.
I am not too bothered about a bit of time without a job, but I enjoy the work I do and wish to continue as long as I am able. I would enjoy passing on some of the experience and knowledge I have gained to others too.

Will let you know how things plan out, but thanks for reading and for letting me put this down in writing a bit of a cathartic exercise and clearing my mind.

Its always a tough choice, in just going and grabbing a job b4 they all get snapped up or to remain on the wind down. Ive done both and preferred the clean break. Having a job to walk into is the best way as you both dont get chance to think or stagnate.
    Good luck

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

    Cheers guys
It will be a balancing act to get everything to happen at the right time (never usually happens)
The main problem could be, if I stay on to the 2nd phase (partial de-commission) I may not get the chance to leave when it suits me.
It will more than likely be, leave when the company decides I'm no longer needed.
    Will keep you posted.

You never know what's round the corner, keep your options open as long as you can. I took a completely different direction in career when I was made redundant, took a leap of faith into the unknown, worked for me.

Good luck, it's never as bleak as you think!

Usually, in my life at least, change has been for the better. Even if it didn't feel like it at the time. Good luck !!

    A quick update guys
Have had my interview with one of the companies (will not name them just yet)
It was (in a good way) the strangest interview I have ever had.
Was there 1.75Hrs and it was like 3 blokes chatting, nothing technical or anythng of that nature.
I came away feeling good, but I think the stumbling block will be wages, said they will in contact over the next few days, so will wait and see.
Out of interest have a couple more contacts with recruiters this evening and 2 more job descriptions to consider.
Looks like the post Christmas lull is picking up.
Lets see what happens over the next few days or so
