Default Sending messages to ET - a good idea?

Personally, it gives me the heebiejeebies.
But a group of (of course) Americans is planning to send laser messages to known planets circling nearby stars in an attempt to initiate communication with any technological civilisations there.

If we get a return message, will the invasion fleet be far behind?
Or maybe the first thing we know is when the slavers turn up.
After all, it's what we would do. Human history is not very positive about advanced societies meeting less capable ones.

I wouldn't worry too much. Unless they have a faster than light drive, you will be long gone before they arrive. It's probably that by then, earthlings will be able to defend themselves.

If they are much more advanced than us - can't be difficult - why would they be aggressive?

You're falling into the trap of mistaking dickheads for aliens. It's easily done...

Anyway, according to this Canadian ex-defence minister aliens have been around for years http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencete...ret-files.html

The don't mess with is because like Rik from 'The Young Ones' we've got a bomb and we're not afraid to use it.

Get with the program. My Apogee Duetta Interstella speakers made contact, and have been streaming music direct from Proxima Centauri for some time now.

That's why they are staying away. Everyone knows aliens like 'BBC' type speakers.

He was beamed-down by mistake (unfortunately) or maybe they just wanted to get rid of him on this outpost planet
