    And the finished article...

The water slide decal technology followed by acrylic sealant I used unfortunately didn't work quite as well as hoped... the photos flatter in this case... Not bad though.

I'll probably build another of these for my own use as I'll miss it, but with nothing like the same "build quality". ie it will look a mess and "thrown together" compared to this one... although it will in practice sound the same, be just as reliable, just as robust etc etc

It could have reacted with the acrylic sealant maybe though?

    No, it wouldn't.

Unfortunately I can't see any of the pictures - will try another browser.

Looks good that does, your customer is right about the two tone casework.

I've switched to IE now and can see the pictures . That looks great - really nice build. If this is anything like the unit I tried the new owner will be very happy indeed.

I reckon this head amp followed by the prototype MM phono section of the not far from release now hybrid pre amp actually pips the MC phono stage you heard

The MM phono stage is based on the unit you heard but with small changes for MM use and, in this form, separate discrete regulators for each stage of each channel. The head amp uses the same discrete regulators, again one for each channel, but with minor changes for even lower noise.

I plan to offer a version of the pre amp/phono stage/line amp (I don't know if you've followed the thread on the full function hybrid preamp) which "absorbs" the unit you tried into this range, but with the further improvements I've made during the R&D for the MM unit incorporated... which should be quite something!
This will have a separate power supply unit and multi-way umbilical cord and plug and will be a fair bit more expensive than the MM only version I will be initially offering.

The initial MM only unit can of course be used with MC carts by using a head amp such as ..erm... this one (other head amps are available) or an SUT. This approach seems popular with users of valve phono stages and hence this is why (along with cost) the initial offering will be MM only.
