    Default Hashimoto HM-3 SUT

Hashimoto HM-3 step-up transformers in high quality box.

Bought this recently from a member of this parish.

These world-class Japanese transformers are switchable between 20x and 40x gain, giving cartridge loadings of 100 ohms and 30 ohms respectively. The 20x setting is perfect for most low output moving coil cartridges, such as Audio Technicas, Denons, Ortofons, Lyras, Transfigurations, Koetsus, etc.

The 40x setting will work well with an Io and low output SPUs for example, making this a very versatile bit of kit. The internal wiring is Audio Note silver, as are the rca sockets. The unit also has a 'ground lift' switch and vibration-isolating feet. The Hashimoto transformers are shrouded in mu-metal cases, and with the additional metal outside casing, they are almost immune to 'hum pick-up' from external souces (no problems at all ime). The unit is built to a high standard, and was originally created as a prototype for a commercial venture. Sound quality is top-notch, with dynamics, detail and tonality that few can match.

I'm only selling this as it's not an ideal match to my cart, which has a slightly unusual internal impedance for a LOMC, otherwise there's no way I'd be letting it go.

Looking for what I paid - £500 plus postage.

“Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of fuel. Sentimental people call it inspiration, but what they really mean is fuel. I have always needed fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio”

Can I ask what your cartridge is? I may be able to offer some advice.

I'm sorted thanks Andrew. Cart is a Benz Gullwing SLR. I bought the Tributes that were for sale on here, they are a great match with the Benz.

Ah yes, a 38 ohm source impedance according to the specs, and an output voltage of 0.35mV. That's quite a bit higher than most Ortofons, Audio Technicas, Koetsus etc.
For that my recommendation would be for a turns ratio of 1:10, or maybe a touch more.

    They're a bit sneaky with the output too, quoting it at 3.25 cm/sec, at 5 cm/sec it's 0.49mV.

This will sell soon anyway, but it's worth mentioning the fact that this unit is well pimped with various exotica too....
