    Default Dilemma.

Not yet, but eventually, we intend to downsize our living accommodation, and I may have to part with my much loved Usher 6371 speakers.

To my ears they do everything right, and the bass is phenomenal.

So, I appreciate the footprint will be similar, but I'll be looking for stand mount speakers and would like to hear your suggestions.

I listen to most things, smooth jazz, classical, you name it, and I play it, so please fire away.

At the moment the finish is gloss black, so possibly a priority, but not 100%.

I would try them in the new place first before changing.
“Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of fuel. Sentimental people call it inspiration, but what they really mean is fuel. I have always needed fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio”

    Smaller Ushers?

If it was me I'd make sure the new place, even if smaller overall, had a room big enough to deploy some decent sized floorstanders.

They are going to have to be smaller as we envisage an apartment that may be first floor in a listed building, or similar.

So far then...smaller Ushers, anything else?

It's an old people's home isn't it? Don't worry, they will keep you so drugged up you won't remember your name let alone get around to putting a record on.

An apartment in an old building may well have a problem with noise. No building codes in those days, the only thing between you and the place downstairs is the floorboards and the plasterboard on their ceiling. You don't want to move in, set the kit up and as soon as you put a record on all the neighbours come round to complain. It is the worst possible choice of accommodation for a music enthusiast. Unless you are happy with headphones only, and who is? I'd reconsider that bit. How about a small, detached bungalow? Or if it has to be period, some sort of annexe-type thing

Hoping it will be in a period property that had proper walls not like in modern buildings, and was a really solid build, again not like the thrown together houses of the last 30 years.

Solid doesn't equate to soundproof though. Modern flats are much better for that. By modern I mean built in the last 20 years or so.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”
