Question Pioneer PL71 or Sony PS6750?

One bake off i would love to hear is between a Pioneer PL71 and a Sony PS6750 direct drive turntable. I recently had a very brief listen to a Sony though i have to admit it had an inexpensive mm cartridge in the sharp end. Any views on this here? The only downside to the Sony in my view is an extra mechanism on the tone arm lift. It still sounds pretty darn good once the arm is in use. The one at Mibo sounded great.

Also try and get a listen to the Toshiba SR-370 Steve.

It looks plainer but is a fine Direct Drive heavyweight of very high quality and capability.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

How would you describe it's tonal/sonic qualities?

What a nice choice to have to make! I've not heard the Sony, but the PL-71 has to be one of the most musical record players ever made.

You should try a Toshiba as Geoff says. I had a Sony PSx70. I now wouldn't go back.

I lived with a PL-71 for a couple of years. Gorgeous midrange (which is where most of the tune is, IMHO). Nothing else to be done with her other than plug 'n' play, as I believe The Kids today say. Only moved her on when I found a Townshend Rock which is another competitively priced second hand buy.
